We don’t want tension, but we do want to press on our diaphragm gently but firmly while we sing.
Think of it like we are pushing the air out of a blow up mattress. We want to gently but firmly push on our core (the mattress filled with air), so that the air is a steady stream to work with.
If we took a big breath, then we have a lot to work with. This is again why breathing is so important, because without a big breath, we can’t generate the air to sustain singing with power.
Another way to think of is it is tightening it like a drum. It feels like a gentle tightening from my sternum to my belly/diaphragm, but while still singing relaxed & free.
The important thing when singing with power is not to force it.
We don’t strain or tense up, but rather relax & sing with command, authority & presence.
How your stage presence can make a massive difference in how people respond in worship
The importance of memorization & getting away from music stands (you can do it!)
Strategies to begin developing the ability to tastefully ad-lib without distracting from worship
The importance of rejecting jealousy & being a spiritually healthy team member as a vocalist
